Microsoft SQL Server 2014 builds on the mission-critical capabilities delivered in the prior release by providing breakthrough performance, availability and manageability for your mission critical applications. SQL Server 2014 delivers new in-memory capabilities built into the core database for OLTP and data warehousing, which complement our existing in-memory data warehousing and BI capabilities for the most comprehensive in-memory database solution in the market.
SQL Server 2014 also provides new disaster recovery and backup solutions with Windows Azure, enabling customers to use their existing skills with the on-premises product offerings to take advantage of Microsoft’s global datacenters. In addition, SQL Server 2014 takes advantage of new Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 capabilities to give you unparalleled scalability for your database application in a physical or virtual environment.
How to install it
Step 1. Run the Setup.exe file.
Step 2. Installation : Click on “New SQL Server Failover Cluster Installation”
Step 3. Setup Support Rules
It will check your system environment before installing SQL Server to prevent Failure. Click “Ok” after successful completion of Operation.
Step 4. Product Key
Specify the edition of SQL Server 2014. If you have Product License key then select “Enter the product key” else select “Specify a free version”.
Step 5. License Term
Check “I Accept the license terms” and click “Next”. To “Send Feature usage data to Microsoft” also check second checkbox.
Step 6. Setup Support Rules
The wizard will now do some real checks and will provide you with a list of details which are either passed or failed.
Step 7. Setup Role
Select “SQL Server Feature Installation”, click “Next”.
Step 8. Feature Selection
Select all the features you want to install. Like Database Engine Service, Client Tool Connectivity, Client Tool SDk, etc as shown in snap.
Step 9. Installation Rules
This wizard will do couple more checks as we proceed. Click Next.
Step 10. Instance Configuration
In this step we will do the Instance configuration, Server configuration and the Database Engine configuration.
Step 11. Server Configuration
Specify the service account and collation configuration. Select the “Startup Type” and set password if you want to make it password authenticated.
Step 12. Database Engine Configuration
Select “Windows Authentication Mode” for General usage, Else select “Mixed Mode” and specify the password. Also add the User, click “Next”.
Step 13. Database Engine Configuration Cont.
Set the path for all Data Dictionary else leave it as it is and click “Next”.
Step 14. Installation Configuration Rules
This Wizard will do one final round of checks before doing the install.
Step 15. Ready to Install
Check all the Features to be installed and click “Install”.
Step 16. Complete
Now your SQL Server 2014 installation completed successfully.
Step 17. Start SQL Server 2014
You are not able to work with a Microsoft’s SQL database. As you can see, there are several steps before completing SQL 2014 Installation, but when it’s completed, server is stable and offer you unlimited possibilities.
