How to be a REAL administrator on Windows 8 (privileges)

Make yourself a Windows 8 Administrator!

After playing around with Windows 8 enterprise version, I realized that they do not give you total administrator privileges even if you add your current logged on user to the administrator group.  For example, if you want to copy a specific file from one of your mapped drive, it will fail to do so or for some win32 installation packages it will fail to install if you do not right-click + run as administrator.  There are few specific settings that allow you to act as a real administrator and do whatever you want to.

So here are things you need to do in order to become a real administrator on a Windows 8 workstation :

  • Make sure you are a in administrator’s group

  1.  Select Computer management from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools.
  2. Expand to : System Tools -> Local Users and Groups -> Groups.
  3. Double click on Administrators.
  4. Click Add button.
  5. Input your username.
  6. Click ok & confirm.
